  1. Graduates of accredited Naturopathic medical colleges receive more formal training in therapeutic nutrition than M.D.'s, osteopathic physicians, or registered dietitians.
  2. Today there are over 1400 licensed Naturopathic physicians (N.D.'s) in Canada.
  3. In 1983 the World Health Organization recommended the integration of Naturopathic Medicine into conventional health care systems.
  4. In Canada naturopathic practice is regulated under provincial law in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Alberta regulations are pending and expected to be completed by 2008. All other provinces and territories are actively pursuing regulation.
  5. There are fourteen states that license NDs (as of April 2005): Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Oregon, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, Utah, Vermont and Washington as well as the District of Columbia and the US Territories of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

  7. The government of Germany now requires conventional doctors and pharmacists to receive training in Naturopathic techniques because they have been found to be so cost-effective.
